The King of Laughter (2021)

Here I laugh, the film directed by Mario Martone, focuses on the figure of the famous actor and playwright Eduardo Scarpetta, played by Toni Servillo, as well as the father of another great Italian theater scene, Eduardo De Filippo. Scarpetta was a key figure of the Italian theater, who staged works that soon became firm historical elements in our local culture and that have consecrated him as one of the great masters of laughter in the Bel Paese.
A life dedicated to the stage, which brought him successes, but also controversies, in fact the diatribe with Gabriele D'Annunzio for a parodied version of the Vate in The Son of Iorio is memorable. De Filippo himself, his son, never spoke of him in terms of a father, but he always defined the parent as a great actor, as if Scarpetta's acting greatness exceeded the bond of familiarity between the two.
