The main character experiences psychological trauma associated with the loss of his maid. This woman worked in his house for forty years, and during this time they reached complete mutual understanding. Now the gastronomic critic has no choice but to hire another assistant. She becomes a girl who came from Paraguay. However, Manuel finds it difficult to communicate with her due to the difference in culture, upbringing and age. Also, a man finishes writing a book about cooking and asks his friend to help him publish it. Old friends meet again in Buenos Aires, remembering the past and discussing the problems inherent in the modern world.
